- For a DNR burning permit, visit Wisconsin Burning Permits | Wisconsin DNR or call 1-888-WIS-BURN (947-2876).
- Before you burn, you MUST call the City of Portage Fire Department at 608-742-2172, Ext. 1, and notify them of any burning activity to avoid an unnecessary/costly dispatch of the Fire Dept. to your burn site.
- Before you burn, you MUST call Columbia County Dispatch at 608-742-4166, Ext. 1 for the same reason listed above.
- Before you burn, you MUST call 1-888-WIS-BURN (947-2876) or visit WisBurn for the daily burning restrictions.
- Burning in this township is only permitted during the hours of 6:00 p.m. until midnight.
BURNING PERMIT NOT REQUIRED (except during Emergency Burn Restriction Periods)
Small campfires for warming or cooking purposes do not require a DNR burning permit.
- Allowed anytime (except during emergency burn restriction periods). Please use extreme caution!
- Check for DNR burn restrictions daily to determine if burning is allowed or suspended for the day. Visit WisBurn or call 1-888-947-2876.
- Avoid burning on windy days & never leave your fire unattended.
- Make certain your fire is cold and fully extinguished before you leave.
